## Article

The tab icon is a blurry crop of your wordmark. The iOS home-screen icon is the same file stretched. You do not need a new brand workshop. You need a square master and a favicon generator that exports the sizes platforms actually request.

## Sizes that cover real devices

BryteTools exports PNG at 16, 32, 48, 180, 192, and 512px — browsers, Apple touch icons, Android, and PWA splash-adjacent icons. One ZIP, not six manual exports from Figma at 1am.

SizeTypical use

16 / 32Browser tabs, bookmarks

48Windows site icons / older shortcuts

180Apple touch icon

192 / 512Android / PWA manifest icons

## Source image rules

- Start from a square logo or mark, at least 512×512.

- Avoid tiny type. At 16px, words disappear. Use a mark, not the full lockup.

- High contrast against both light and dark browser chrome. Test a dark tab bar.

- Transparent PNG if you want the mark to sit on any theme; a solid background if the mark has thin light lines.

## Generate the ZIP in the browser

Open [BryteTools Favicon Generator](https://brytetools.com/tools/favicon-generator), drop the image, download the ZIP. Processing is local. If the master is huge, resize first with [Image Resizer](https://brytetools.com/tools/image-resizer) or compress with [Image Compressor](https://brytetools.com/tools/image-compressor) so you are not fighting a 20MB source.

## Hook it up in HTML

Point <link rel="icon"> at 32px (and SVG if you have one). Add apple-touch-icon at 180. Put 192 and 512 in the web app manifest. Missing those links is why “we exported favicons” still shows a generic globe.

## Mistakes

- Using the horizontal logo at 16px. It becomes noise. Cut a simplified mark.

- JPEG favicons. No transparency; muddy edges. Use PNG from this generator.

- One size to rule them all. Serving only 16px and letting the OS upscale looks cheap on a phone home screen.

- Forgetting cache. Browsers cache favicons hard. Change the filename when you rebrand.
